More Spring Game Analysis
In the name of consolidation, here are some links about the Spring Game. Overall consensus - Offense is going to be GOOOOOOD. I think hell might have frozen over.

Spring Game Analysis and Review
KT has updated his blog, with highlights and interviews about the Spring Game. Check it out, and here is a preview:
A couple of other notables: Kam Chancellor is a beast, as previously mentioned in this space. The proverbial light has come on for him at free safety and he is turning the proverbial lights out on offensive players. He clobbered Xavier Boyce on one play, the destroyed RB Zac Evans on a run up the middle, popping the ball loose and resulting in a 20-yard touchdown return by DT Antoine Hopkins, who added two “sacks” to his big day.
Lastly ... watch out Greg Boone. The tight end job seems very much up in the air all the sudden. And what a surprise. Chris Drager has had a big spring, capped by a stellar spring game. He hauled in four passes for 41 yards and looks like one of Taylor’s favorite targets. That will be interesting to see develop in the spring. The Hokies appear loaded at tight end.

Four of the five offensive linemen who have been taking the majority of reps with the first team this spring are former tight ends. It's part of a recent change in recruiting philosophy that could help the root of the Hokies recent offensive problems.
"With the zone play and those types of things, we've gone the last few years in trying to find more athletic guys," said offensive line coach Curt Newsome. "A while back it was a bigger, heavier type of guy. We kind of like to grow our own, get 'em in here, let them get in the strength program, have the good feet and be able to move around. And I feel good about where we're at right now. We've got four starters back from the bowl game. We've had a real good spring."

Who will be our PK this year?
Looks like Waldron has the job locked up, unless Journell can come in a really impress. Randy King at the Roanoke Times has an update, which also includes some OL talk and some tidbits. Here is a portion:
"It's good to hear coming from the main guy," said Waldron, who connected from 47 and 35 yards in last Wednesday's mini-scrimmage and hit a 32-yarder in the first full scrimmage on April 10.
"I've missed like one or two during team period in practice. There are a lot of good kickers here, plus we've got a couple more coming in the fall. So there's a lot of time and a lot of kicks left. It's not an easy job to get into. I've got a long ways to go, but I'm very, very happy right now."

Ryan Williams
Williams has been lighting it up during Spring Practice from all reports I've read. Here is another sweet article from the Darryl Slater at the Richmond Times-Dispatch with some quotes and good info. Enjoy a tidbit:

Christian LeMay
LeMay, a 2011 QB recruit from NC, hailes from the same school as current Hokie Eddie Whitley (Butler). Here is an udpate from The Charlotte Observer, and I really like the kid's size and mobility from what I've seen and heard. I don't think he's got an offer, but I know the coaches have him on the radar. I'll update you as I know more.

BREAKING NEWS
Randy King is reporting that Ju-Ju Clayton was named Tyrod's backup for the Fall. Maybe not a surprise to most, but a good call by the coaches in my mind, so Davis can focus on WR (I think he'll make an incredible impact there).
Alfy Hill
Hill is definitely one of the guys that I hope we land this year, because DE is looking a little thin and we could always use a guy that is big and can run. I know that he's favoring the in-state schools right now, but I do like VT's chances if he goes out of state.
Josh Eadie
Eadie, who played at Brookville with Logan Thomas and Zach McCray, is looking to push for a walk-on spot this year at DE. He has the measurables at 6'5" 230, but does he have the skills? Who knows, but the Lynchburg News-Advance has a good new article on him this week. Enjoy.

BeamerBall.com: Also, in watching the BeamerVision clips, Jake Johnson looks much faster than I thought he would. He said he dropped some weight to become quicker. Do you think it's worked?
Frank Beamer: Jake ran a good 40 time for us. He looks quick when we watch tape of our practices. And, as he continues to learn the position, he'll only play faster. I can tell you that all of this is very important to Jake Johnson. He's serious about what he'd doing. I'm hoping he has a great spring and I think he's on his way right now.

Kevin Sherman - Receivers
"I thought the receivers were productive in the red zone. Dyrell Roberts had a nice touchdown catch. Plus, we continue to try to be physical on the perimeter in our blocking. Danny Coale is consistent and continues to get better. Xavier Boyce has come a long way since his knee injury and he's playing faster and getting in better shape and he can really help us in our vertical game down the field. Jarrett Boykin didn't scrimmage because of his ankle and hamstring, so, Boyce got some extra work and he took advantage of it. Roberts played faster in this scrimmage than he did in our last scrimmage. I still need to clean some things up in his route running.

* We all know RB Ryan Williams can run. The big question has been whether he can block. Um. Yeah. Williams spring Ju Ju Clayton for a 23-yard scramble by first blocking A.B. Latif, then releasing him and cracking back on DT Kwamaine Battle in the backfield. The 210-pound Williams sent 283-pound Battle flying. It was a nasty. I think Williams has been trying to prove a point this spring and, well, point taken.
